Two Rivers Juvenile is the newest pipe band in Manitoba. The band has been created as part of the St. Andrew’s Society of Winnipeg Pipe Band (SASPB) organization to provide a fun, energetic, engaging learning environment for young people to master the arts of highland bagpipes and drums.
Band members have many great opportunities to learn and grow both musically and personally. The opportunities include:
• Participation at pipe band and solo contests.
• Team fundraising to subsidize travel.
• Public performances at parades, concerts and festivals.
• Exposure to the adult bands within the SASPB organization, to give students a better understanding of how adult bands work and make the transition from juvenile to adult bands an easier and more enjoyable experience.
The sad fact about many juvenile pipe band members is that they often quit once they age out of a youth band. This may be due to burnout, life changes from going to higher education or a full time job, or boredom with the pipe band world. Our goal is to provide a clear path to transition into the adult world of pipe bands and create lifelong interest in our hobby, for the benefit of the members, the future continuance of our organization, and support the future growth of Scottish-Canadian music in Manitoba.
With a group of passionate instructors at the helm and band members available to help, students will be engaged once a week at rehearsals as well as at contests and other performance venues. Two Rivers will be a fantastic place to learn teamwork, professionalism, and have fun in the process.
Our talented professional instructors include some of the top solo and band performers in Western Canada. Our commitment is to pass on the spark and passion that we enjoy through piping and drumming to all our students.
Sean is a long time member of the Manitoba piping and drumming community. He brings his experience as drum sergeant with the Grade 2 St. Andrew’s Society of Winnipeg Pipe Band, instructor for the Grade 3 St. Andrew’s Pipe Band, as well as his personal experience as a private and group instructor and member of a professional country rock band. Sean will oversee the overall operation of the Two Rivers Juvenile band, as well as serving as the principle drumming instructor.
Gale learned to play the bagpipes as an adult, and has been piping with various Manitoba bands for a number of years. Her professional experience as a long time elementary school teacher and now as a Vice Principal makes her an ideal candidate for the position of Educational Advisor. She will provide our instructors with the tools necessary to engage students in the most effective methods of learning. Gale also brings her experience as a pipe band mother, contest steward, and games committee member to the group and will also act as liaison between parents and the band.
